Combining Similar Phone Numbers for Contact Management

EDIT: Solved. +1ABCDEFGHIJ is the correct format. Issue was with automation/API only. Use correct formatting before sending in phone number to Thoughtly is the resolution. We need to make sure phone numbers like +1ABCDEFGHIJ and 1ABCDEFGHIJ and +1ABC-DEF-GHIJ and ABC-DEF-GHIJ are combined into the same contact, no? Let's suppose ABC-DEF-GHIJ is not clear given the lack of international code, but the others surely should be aggregated into the same contact, no? What do y'all think?

Tony K Ok so I just realized it is a problem only through the API / automations, as the numbers combines into a single contact when added manually. So for automations/API: Let's say someone's phone number is 1234567890 without the country code. Through the API or an automation, when creating a new contact, the same number (1234567890), can be saved as +11234567890 or 11234567890 or +1-123-456-6789 and it will create individual contacts for them, even though it's the same phone number in each case, and should be combined. Not sure if this is intentional? Also, is that clear?

how are you passing the number in the API/automation? Reason I am asking -- I use n8n and I clean up the formatting of the number before passing through

Ya so I'm doing that already, using JS to clean up the phone #s, I guess I should be good for most cases - worried about edge cases I guess lol. I'm passing numbers in as 1XXXXXXXXXX is that best practice, do you know?

Thanks for confirming it's a +1. I for some reason thought it was 1xxxXXXxxxx. And the XXX-XXX-XXXX I was talking about, now that was just a what-if, but I'll make sure things are formatted before triggering Thoughtly at every turn to avoid formatting issues - to you point. Thanks again!
