Variables in v1.8: Availability and Usage Tips

·
·

When are variables coming to v1.8? I only seem to be able to add them via the @ symbol in the Start node

    are you using API? Metadata is accessible {{metadata.variable}}

    Nah I'm using the builder

what variables are you talking about? You can use extract fields to get variables from the conversation

    ·
    ·

and then you can use those in webhooks and such

In the start node type @ and you get a list of variables that you can use Tony K

    ·
    ·

those are just minimal default ones.

they have those tho, but I think Torrey Leonard said they are being implemented still, so not sure they are all working at the moment

Ya that's the problem, seems kinda half baked

    ·
    ·

And it's not just the minimal default ones, that's where you're mistaken

In fact in v1 (doesn't work in v1.8), you could access the answer for every prior node using the @ symbol in the End node Tony K

    ·
    ·

    that's the @

  • Avatar of Tony K
    Tony K
    ·
    ·

you can do {Name} in v1

  • Avatar of Shay R
    Shay R
    ·
    ·

Try @ on the end node of one of you v1 agents...it will give you access to all the outcomes, answers, metadata, and those default contact ones

    ·
    ·

v1.8 we can't access them in the end node

  • Avatar of Shay R
    Shay R
    ·
    ·

And neither can we access them in any speak node

  • Avatar of Tony K
    Tony K
    ·
    ·

ya, I was just speaking of the default ones, and I've always used {variable} in v1 nodes

  • Avatar of Shay R

    ·

I'm surprised this is still not implemented

Did you go to their weekly call...what's happening...no updates in a while

Hi there Shay and Tony, in v1.8 we have changed the way slightly for how variables are used. It allows more control by the user. Below is a link to our docs Shay R that has additional information regarding variable usage. https://docs.thoughtly.com/build/agent-builder/variables

Colin Didn't Torrey say that the variables weren't all working yet

  • Avatar of Shay R
    Shay R
    ·
    ·

Colin also can we please either get { variable } or {{ variable }} ... this {{ variable } is killing me 😅

  • Avatar of Shay R
    Shay R
    ·
    ·

So the @ symbol will not be a way to access variables?

  • Avatar of Shay R
    Shay R
    ·
    ·

    I personally think that's a step backwards...but maybe that's just me

  • Avatar of Shay R

And bring back the green highlighting of variables in all speak nodes

The @ system Shay is referring to is not in v1.8, but it may get added back since we have been getting some requests from the community for that. However, the {{variableName}} notation should be working and highlighting green on all nodes.

Don't see any green highlights, v1.8

  • Avatar of Tony K

    ·
    ·

ya highlighting is broken, but {{ }} works

  • Avatar of Shay R
    Shay R
    ·
    ·

    Anyways that's not a huge deal. I'll try referencing the metadata variables directly using {{variableName}}

  • Avatar of Shay R
    Shay R
    ·
    ·

But what about the response of a speak node. It's infinitely better to target as possible in the End node of v1

metadata is from passing through APIs though

Shay R Do you have a few minutes to hop in a call so I can help you sort this out, I am not quite sure anymore exactly what you are trying to do and want to make sure I get you the correct information.
